Creative STEAM · Laguna Woods, CA
We're looking for a teacher who believes learning happens everywhere — in real conversations, hands-on projects, and moments that actually matter to a young person's life.
About us
\"We don't just teach subjects. We build humans.\"
Creative STEAM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit learning center that throws out the traditional playbook. No phones. No passive note-taking. Just real, hands-on learning in small groups where every student is known by name and challenged by design. We partner with community supporters to make this possible — and our teachers are the heartbeat of what we do.
The role
7th Grade ELA & Math Teacher
This isn't a fill-in-the-blanks, follow-the-textbook kind of job. You'll bring ELA and Math to life for 7th and/or 8th graders by tying every lesson to something real — budgeting, storytelling, critical thinking, decision-making. You'll know your students, adapt to them, and challenge them to see how what they're learning actually shows up in the world. 5th and 6th Grade Science and Social studies.
What you'll actually do
- Design with purpose - Build curriculum that connects real-world skills to ELA and Math — no filler, no busywork
- Know your students - Assess where each learner is and meet them there — both academically and socially
- Make it memorable
- Build community - Partner with parents and staff to support each student's growth beyond academics
- Use hands-on methods, movement, and projects that stick long after class ends
- Teach life skills - Weave in social-emotional learning and the skills students need to navigate the real world
- Track progress - Assess and adjust — keep a pulse on where students are and celebrate milestones
5th & 6th Grade Science and Social Studies
You'll bring Science and Social Studies to life for 5th and 6th graders through immersive projects, creative experiments, and stories that connect the world around them to who they are becoming. You'll design lesson plans with real creative freedom, no rigid scripts, just inspired teaching that makes kids lean in and want to know more.
What You'll Actually Do
- Design project-based, hands-on curriculum for Science and Social Studies — no filler, no busywork
- Run experiments, explorations, and creative projects that make concepts click and spark real wonder
- Connect history, culture, ecosystems, and community to things students can see, touch, and experience
- Assess where each learner is and meet them there — academically, socially, and emotionally
- Weave in social-emotional learning and life skills alongside every lesson
- Use movement, storytelling, and immersive experiences that stick long after class ends
- Communicate regularly and warmly with parents and school staff
- Track student progress and celebrate milestones along the way
