Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide essential support to patients across various care settings, including long-term care facilities, hospitals, assisted living communities, and home health environments. Your primary responsibility will be to assist with daily patient care activities, ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity for all individuals under your care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in patient-centered care, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and have experience working with diverse populations, including geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, and those requiring specialized dementia or memory care.
Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using appropriate patient transfer methods and equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, and temperature; accurately document findings within electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration under supervision in accordance with healthcare protocols and maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Provide specialized care for patients with conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other memory impairments; implement appropriate behavioral health interventions.
- Assist with medical procedures including phlebotomy (blood draws), catheter care, and aseptic techniques during wound care or other invasive procedures.
- Support emergency response efforts by maintaining proficiency in basic life support (BLS) and CPR; respond promptly to urgent patient needs.
- Facilitate effective communication between patients, families, and healthcare teams to promote a supportive environment.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure compliance with healthcare standards across all documentation practices.
- Participate in training related to infection control practices and safe manual handling techniques to minimize risks for patients and staff.
- Contribute to the overall safety of the clinical environment by adhering to hospital policies on infectious disease care and safe lifting practices.
Experience
- Prior experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in settings such as hospitals (including ICU or trauma centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home health agencies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy relevant to patient care procedures.
- Experience utilizing electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for medical documentation.
- Familiarity with caring for geriatric populations and individuals with disabilities or behavioral health needs.
- Hands-on experience with specialized care areas including hospice care, pediatric (PICU), post-acute care, or sub-acute settings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques critical for safe patient handling.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while following safe lifting practices; proficient in manual handling techniques.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR is required; additional certifications related to dementia care or geriatrics are advantageous.
