Idea Mechanics are responsibile for facilitating visitor experience in the Idea Machine gallery by engaging with guests as they interact with the space and ensure smooth operations of hands-on materials and the gallery as a whole. Idea Mechanics will implement educational programs and activities that engage diverse audiences in Idea Machine during Museum open hours. This role enhances visitors’ understanding and appreciation of the museum’s collections and exhibitions. This role will also assist with other Learning & Engagement programming as needed, particularly those events geared toward youth and families.
This position is part-time at an estimated 15 hours/week. The job will require working some evenings and/or weekends.
Responsibilities:

Visitor Engagement: Engaging with visitors to facilitate learning and enhance their museum experience. This may include greeting groups, demonstrating projects, providing creative guidance, and answering questions about the museum’s collections and exhibitions.

Collaboration: Working closely with other museum staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure the successful delivery of educational programs and events.

Training: Undergoing museum staff training as they are assigned by HR and L&E managers.

Evaluation: Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs, adjusting as necessary to improve visitor engagement and learning outcomes.

Maintaining Idea Machine Gallery: educating guests on how to use hands-on materials within the gallery, replenishing hands-on supplies as needed, and reporting any misuse of gallery items to the Educator of Youth and Family Experiences and the Curatorial Department.

- High School Diploma Required.

Experience working with children is required.

Experience developing and delivering educational programs in a museum or similar setting is required.

A degree in education, museum studies, art history, or a related field preferred.
