Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Transportation Aide to join our healthcare team. This vital role involves assisting patients with their transportation needs within hospital or community settings, ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the process. As a Transportation Aide, you will play a crucial role in facilitating smooth patient transfers and supporting overall hospital operations while adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients between departments, clinics, or community locations using appropriate patient transfer methods and equipment.
- Assist patients with mobility challenges by applying manual handling techniques and safe lifting practices to prevent injury.
- Follow infection control procedures, including isolation precautions, to maintain hospital patient safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff to ensure clear understanding of transfer procedures and patient needs.
- Support patient care activities by providing compassionate assistance during transfers and ensuring comfort throughout the process.
- Implement patient safety measures during transportation, including proper use of safety belts and transfer devices.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of transportation equipment in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Demonstrate de-escalation techniques when managing distressed or anxious patients to promote a calm environment.
Requirements
- Prior experience in home & community care or hospital settings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of patient transfer methods, medical terminology, and hospital safety protocols.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR is required to respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling tasks while adhering to safe lifting practices.
- Familiarity with infection control procedures, including isolation precautions and patient safety measures implementation.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with diverse patient populations.
- Experience with critical care transport is an asset but not mandatory; training will be provided if necessary.
