CAV is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to fostering a community free from domestic and sexual violence. We provide advocacy, counseling, support groups, children’s programs, prevention and outreach services, and emergency shelter and transitional housing for survivors and their families. Position Summary:
The HR Director plays a vital leadership role in ensuring the health and sustainability of CAV’s workforce. This position supports all programs by overseeing human resources operations, advising leadership on HR policies and compliance, and fostering a workplace culture that is trauma-informed, inclusive, and strengths-based. You’ll be part of a passionate team working toward meaningful social change in our community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Human Resources Management
- Provide strategic HR support across all CAV programs, including performance management, compensation, discipline, and termination.
- Lead recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring compliance with pre-employment requirements.
- Maintain personnel files in accordance with employment law and funding contracts.
- Monitor employee evaluations and disciplinary actions; support supervisors with documentation and guidance.
- Ensure compliance with COBRA, FMLA, and other employment regulations.
- Advise staff and leadership on employee relations, benefits, and HR policies.
- Maintain and update the Employee Handbook and HR policies.
- Work closely with Leadership Team and Supervisory Team to create policies and procedures that support the function of CAV programs.
- Oversee benefits administration, including but not limited to health, dental, vision, and 403(b) retirement plans.
- Design and deliver HR training for supervisors.
- Manage Worker’s Compensation claims and HR budget.
- Create and update sub-contracts as needed.
- Investigate personnel issues and concerns and provide feedback to staff and managers as to how to reach resolutions.
Employee Wellbeing & Staff Support
- Provide confidential one-on-one support sessions to staff experiencing secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, burnout, or workplace-related stress, utilizing trauma-informed and employee-centered approaches.
- Meet individually with employees to help process the emotional impact of working with survivors, high-risk populations, and other challenging workplace situations.
- Support staff in navigating professional relationships, workplace conflicts, communication challenges, and interpersonal disagreements while promoting respectful and productive work environments.
- Offer coaching and guidance to employees on conflict resolution, healthy boundaries, self-care practices, and professional resilience.
- Assess employee support needs and connect staff with appropriate internal and external resources, including Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), counseling services, wellness resources, peer support, and community-based services.
- Develop individualized support plans for employees experiencing workplace stressors and provide ongoing follow-up to ensure access to appropriate resources and interventions.
- Facilitate referrals and coordinate supportive services for staff while maintaining confidentiality and adherence to organizational policies.
- Promote workforce well-being by providing education, resources, and strategies that support emotional health, trauma stewardship, stress management, and employee retention.
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees seeking guidance regarding workplace concerns, professional challenges, and personal wellness as it relates to job performance.
- Collaborate with supervisors and leadership to identify workforce wellness trends and implement proactive strategies that reduce the impact of secondary trauma and strengthen staff resilience.
Organizational Leadership & Culture
- Participate in staff and Personnel Committee meetings; represent CAV in external meetings as assigned.
- Support leadership development and strengths-based supervision practices.
- Promote trauma-informed care and prevent compassion fatigue among staff.
- Engage in reflective supervision and support a healthy workplace culture.
- Coordinate with all CAV program components to ensure HR alignment.
- Testify in court when required, including post-employment obligations.
- Participate in at least three outreach or agency events annually.
- Uphold confidentiality standards and other responsibilities as assigned.
Leadership & Development
- Promote a strengths-based supervision model that encourages growth, accountability, and resilience.
- Provide mentorship and leadership development opportunities for the supervisors and their teams.
- Support supervisors and their teams in receiving required training and have access to ongoing professional development.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that supports innovation and community engagement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED plus 3 years of relevant experience required; AA/BA in a related field preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Must complete 40 hours of provider-specific training upon hire and 10 hours of ongoing annual training.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
