General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate technical work in the repair and overhaul of automotive and mechanical equipment, gas and diesel motors and engines, performing preventive maintenance, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Equipment Services Supervisor. Limited supervision is exercised over subordinate mechanics on assigned projects.

Essential Functions
Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls gasoline and diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, hydraulic pneumatic and air conditioning systems.
Performs electrical work on automotive equipment such as diagnosing electrical shorts, installing batteries and terminals, repairing and adjusting lights and replacing wiring; tests electronic ignition systems and makes necessary repairs.
Rebuilds pumps, cylinders and valves.
Diagnoses and repairs hydraulic and air brakes, steering and suspension components.
Performs preventive maintenance on automotive, construction and specialized equipment.
Repairs and replaces tires; realigns wheels and makes corrections using wheel alignment equipment.
Performs state safety inspections.
Fabricates replacement parts and metal for body repairs to vehicles and equipment.
Receives and responds to calls for service; repairs vehicles and equipment on job site.
Assists in training new Equipment Mechanics; recommends assignments and inspects the work of assigned personnel.
Maintains cleanliness of shop area, tools and equipment.
Completes any other assigned duties by supervisor.
Provides excellent customer service when working with citizens, elected officials, and/or associates.
Supports the overall City organization by executing the directives as set forth by the immediate supervisor and elected officials. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
