Medical Mutual Liability Insurance Society of Maryland, a leading provider of medical professional liability insurance serving Maryland doctors for over 50 years, seeks an Assistant Vice President, Risk Management to provide strategic leadership in the development, operational management, and accreditation compliance of educational programs for its policyholders.
Essential Functions

Participate in the oversight of the accounting, finance, and information technology functions

Support investment accounting, cash management, and risk management activities

Support the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer with maximizing return on Invested Assets within defined risk and compliance objectives by researching investment opportunities, coordinating with Investment Managers, and maintaining relationships within the investment community

Monitor competitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing the financial statements and supplemental filings made to regulators

Assist in the preparation and analysis of required financial and accounting information, regulatory filings, and Board of Directors presentations

Support the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer with developing financial outlooks through the preparation of financial projections and operational forecasts

Engage in annual budget preparation, payroll oversight, and tax compliance processes

Monitor the overall risk and security environment of the Company, including participating in the oversight of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and the Security Governance Committee

Assist with coordination of auditors on annual financial evaluation and state insurance examiners on regulatory examinations

Stay abreast of new laws and regulations, changes in accounting rules and pronouncements, and other matters that might impact the financial position of the Company

Participate in the preparation of the annual AM Best presentation

Assist with monitoring the overall internal control environment, including participating in the Sarbanes-Oxley significant process narrative documentation, internal control testing, and annual reporting
- Understand the requirements for continued maintenance and updates of the Company’s Information Technology infrastructure

Assist in the oversight of the Company’s qualified and non-qualified retirement plans

Complete special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned

Accomplish organizational deliverables to contribute to the overall mission and direction of the Company

Ensure awareness of and compliance with Company policies and procedures

Four-year college degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university
-
Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant in a state or the District of Columbia
-
Minimum 15 years’ experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably in property/casualty insurance or related industry, including a minimum of 10 years’ supervisory/management experience

MBA preferred

Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
-
Knowledge of Finance, Accounting, Budgeting and Statutory Accounting principles
-
Knowledge of State Insurance Regulations
-
Demonstrated leadership potential and interest in executive-level finance roles
-
Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
-
Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting
