Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Accounting Manager to lead the financial accounting operations in the commercial fence installation (construction) industry. This role is responsible for the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable collections, WIP reporting, monthly close process, and compliance functions including sales and property tax.
The ideal candidate will have strong construction accounting knowledge, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to proactively lead cross-functional initiatives related to accounting operations and financial systems.
Key Responsibilities:
General Ledger Oversight:
- Maintain accurate and complete general ledgers, including all journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end close processes, including:
- Job-level sales and cost recognition using percentage-of-completion and AIA invoicing methodology.
- Recording and amortization of prepaid assets and accrued liabilities.
- Depreciation and asset management for fixed assets.
- Recurring and non-recurring journal entries.
- Full reconciliation of all balance sheets monthly.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Management:
- Supervise and streamline AP processes to ensure accurate coding, timely payments, and vendor communication.
- Oversee AR collections processes, with responsibility for managing retainage, "paid-when-paid" compliance, and collection efforts aligned with GC billing cycles.
- Collaborate with project managers to resolve billing disputes or payment delays.
Sales Tax and Property Tax Compliance:
- Ensure accurate calculation, filing, and payment of sales and use tax across multiple jurisdictions.
- Manage annual property tax filings and coordinate assessments, payments, and any required audits or appeals.
- Maintain proper documentation to support compliance and audit readiness.
Internal Controls & Financial Operations:
- Establish, document, and monitor internal controls to ensure data integrity and prevent errors or fraud.
- Continually evaluate and improve accounting policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline month-end close and reporting cycles.
Audit, Compliance & Reporting:
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and tax reviews.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepare internal financial reports, trend analysis, and KPI dashboards to support management decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience in construction accounting required; knowledge of subcontractor processes, AIA billing and WIP analysis a strong plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, sales tax, and fixed asset accounting.
- Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and drive process improvements.
Pay: $122,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
