Position Summary: This position carries the major responsibility for implementing a Job Readiness Program at Miami Lighthouse, which will prepare blind or visually impaired individuals above the age of 14 be competitive candidates in the current job market. This program will be on two tracks, serving individuals who have been employed, or who require less supervision, and individuals who have not been employed or require more intensive supervision. Individuals who are enrolled or require more supervision are expected to perform homework assignments, work with an A.T. Training specialist in-conjunction with the Job Readiness Instructor Specialist and the total length of the program is between 6 and 8 weeks depending on the assigned track. This program is structured to accept new referred clients by referral from DBS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:
- Coordinate and manage the Job Readiness Program.
- Provides Job Readiness training to clients in the following areas:
Preparation necessary to begin a job search, such as preparing a job application data sheet and/or resume;
Training to gain or improve interviewing skills;
Training in workplace expectations; and
Training to identify, overcome and manage barriers to employment.
- Development of curriculum and lesson plans for two different tracks of students.
- Creation of assessment tools to evaluate readiness of prospective clients for the program.
- Evaluation of the skills, aptitudes and interests of clients enrolled in the program.
- Preparation of individual goals for each student enrolled in the program.
- Preparation of appropriate lesson plans for each student, and monitoring the progress of each student.
- Instruction of students enrolled, with the assistance of the Job Developer and other staff members and employers.
- Evaluation of students at each stage of their program.
- Supervision and advisement of the assisting staff members who will assist with the program.
- Ensuring that appropriate records, daily progress notes, and daily service statistics are maintained as required by the funder of the program, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports as needed.
- Ensuring that all the assistive technology is working properly and well maintained.
- Participation in agency advocacy outreach, and education.
- Participation in department and agency quality improvement efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent from College or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess DOE/DBS Endorsement in Screen Readers and Magnification. The endorsement must be obtained within one year of employment.
- Be proficient in use of computers including Microsoft Office and Internet research.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skill.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, their families and the general public.
- High degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background and a drug test screening.
- Must hold a Florida Driver License and be able to drive.
