Overview
The PALS Creative Arts Therapist plays a vital role in providing therapeutic services through various art modalities to diverse patient populations. This position involves developing and implementing individualized treatment plans that incorporate behavioral therapy, music therapy, dance therapy, and art therapy techniques. The therapist will work with children, adolescents, and adults, including those with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, dementia, and mental health challenges. The role emphasizes compassionate patient care within outpatient and hospice settings while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintaining accurate medical documentation.
Duties
- Design and deliver individual and group therapy sessions utilizing art, music, dance, and recreational therapies tailored to patient needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans addressing behavioral health, autism spectrum disorders, dementia care, addiction counseling, and other conditions.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate patient progress and adjust therapeutic interventions accordingly.
- Maintain detailed medical records and documentation in accordance with HIPAA standards and CPT coding requirements.
- Provide patient care that promotes emotional expression, social skills development, and overall well-being.
- Support patients in outpatient clinics or hospice environments through compassionate counseling focused on mental health, behavioral health, and disability support.
- Participate in team meetings to coordinate care strategies and share insights on patient progress.
- Ensure a safe therapeutic environment by adhering to all safety protocols related to recreational therapy and dementia care.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Recreational Therapy, or related field.
- Certification or licensure as applicable (e.g., ATR-BC, MT-BC).
- Experience working with children and individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of behavioral therapy techniques, mental health counseling, hospice care, and addiction counseling is advantageous.
- Familiarity with medical documentation standards including CPT coding and HIPAA compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, and individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to document progress accurately in medical records while maintaining confidentiality.
