Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Service Writer to join our automotive service team. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for customers bringing their vehicles in for maintenance and repairs. Your energetic approach will ensure a seamless customer experience, accurately document vehicle issues, and coordinate with technicians to deliver exceptional service. Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and listen attentively to understand their vehicle concerns and service needs
- Clearly communicate repair recommendations, estimates, and service options to customers
- Write detailed service orders, including descriptions of vehicle issues, recommended repairs, and parts needed
- Coordinate with technicians to prioritize repairs and ensure timely completion of services
- Upsell additional services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake repairs, alignments, suspension work, and other automotive diagnostics and repairs
- Manage auto estimating processes accurately using dealership or shop management software
- Handle cash transactions and process payments efficiently while maintaining accurate records
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all customer interactions, vehicle repairs, and service history
Experience
- Dealership experience or prior auto service management background preferred not required
- Proven track record in auto estimating, upselling, and customer service within an automotive setting
- Mechanical knowledge gained through mechanic experience or automotive diagnostics expertise preferred not required
- Familiarity with automotive repair procedures including transmissions, oil changes, brake repair, wheel alignments, suspension systems, tire services, diesel engine repair, shocks & struts, air brake systems, and auto body repair
- Experience working with automotive diagnostics tools and understanding mechanical components such as engines and transmissions
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers
- Cash handling experience and proficiency in auto sales are advantageous
