Job Summary: Batch operator is responsible for preparing material for load, operating, monitoring and maintaining the machinery in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of production processes, safety protocols, along with quality control measures.

- Work Schedule: The Batch Operator will work 12.25-hour shifts. Day shift schedule is 7:45am - 8:00pm while night shift schedule is 7:45PM to 8:000AM (7.5%-night differential included in pay). The work week is an alternating 36.25 or49 hours (12.25-hour shifts rotating on a 2-week cycle: 2 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off) resulting in a 3-day weekend every other week and some built in overtime. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOP's) and safety guidelines
- Prepare furnace for closure following SOP's
- Continually watch and adjust temperature and pressure tin accordance to SOP's.
- Correctly enter information into batch programmable logic control panel keypad.
- Read and document batch temperatures using an optical pyrometer and infrared unit.
- Inspect batch interiors between runs for damage and document information.
- Following a production schedule, load and unload batch carbonization furnaces with Pyron feedstock, fabrics and yarns utilizing a load fixture, mandrels, lifting cradle and crane.
- Unstack product, pull samples and move to QC holding area using pallet jack.
- Document information and assorted paperwork.
- Inspect equipment and product for potential problems and report to foreman immediately.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and organized.
- Be knowledgeable of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures, including emergency shut-down, power loss and evacuation procedures.
- Wind Pyron in preparation of process and re-wind Panax fabric after process.
- Cross train in other areas when time permits.
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED is required
- Experience of 1 year or more in manufacturing or a factory environment is strongly desired.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations, read and interpret documents, follow procedures, document information, communicate effectively with shift lead and co-workers.
- Ability to troubleshoot and take effective corrective action to resolve problems.
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate machinery and assemble product.

- Ability to frequently lift, push, pull and move 50lbs. or more with the aid of lifting devices.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, stoop, crouch and crawl.
- Ability to go up and down stairs and ladders.
- use of hand tools is frequently required, ability to use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to talk to others and hear.
- There will be extensive material handling. This role will load-unload, band and prepare for shipping.

- The atmosphere contains carbon fiber airborne particles.
- Work environment is not climate controlled and is very hot and humid in the summer and cold in the winter.
- Handling of carbon fiber material causes moderate to severe itchiness.
- Strong odors may be present.
- Moderately dirty because of materials and machinery handled.
- Excessive fly may be present.
- Employees will be exposed to plant environment, which contains noise, moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
