Job Summary:

Location: Remote (Must reside locally to Washington DC)
Pay range: $130 - 150/hr.
Schedule: Up to 40 hours weekly between Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM
Assignment duration: 12 months assignment with possible extension
Job Overview: Seeking an Occupational Medicine Physician to provide independent medical review services in support of federal employee reasonable accommodation programs. This position involves reviewing medical documentation, job requirements, and accommodation requests and providing objective clinical opinions regarding functional limitations and workplace accommodations.
This is a non-treating, consultative role. The physician will not provide medical treatment, establish physician-patient relationships, or make employment decisions. Instead, the physician will deliver independent medical assessments to support accommodation determinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review employee reasonable accommodation requests and supporting medical documentation.
- Assess medically supported functional limitations and their impact on essential job functions.
- Evaluate whether requested accommodations appear medically appropriate and effective.
- Identify potential alternative accommodations when appropriate.
- Determine whether additional medical information or clarification is required.
- Prepare clear, comprehensive written medical opinion reports.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive medical and personally identifiable information (PII).
- Provide objective, clinically independent recommendations while adhering to federal privacy and security requirements.
- Participate in occasional complex case reviews requiring in-depth analysis and provider follow-up when authorized.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- Current, active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the District of Columbia (DC).
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Occupational Medicine.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Occupational Medicine or closely related clinical review activities.
- Experience reviewing: Functional limitations, Workplace restrictions, Disability-related medical documentation, Reasonable accommodation cases, etc.
- Strong report-writing and clinical documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications (Good to have, but not required)
- Federal government occupational health or reasonable accommodation experience.
- Experience evaluating ADA/Rehabilitation Act accommodation requests.
- Familiarity with workplace accommodation best practices and occupational health standards.
- Experience performing independent medical reviews for employers, insurers, or government agencies.
