Horner Industrial Group is seeking a skilled and experienced Working Mechanical Supervisor to assist with daily operations within our motor shop in Boonville, Indiana. This role is responsible for supervising mechanical operations related to electric motor repair, rewinding, and rotating apparatus, while ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are consistently met.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on mechanical expertise, leadership experience, and a deep understanding of electric motor systems, along with the ability to manage workflows, mentor technicians, and support operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily mechanical operations of the motor repair shop, mechanical assembly and disassembly department including scheduling, workflow coordination, and labor allocation.
- Lead, train, and mentor technicians in teardown, inspection, repair, assembly and testing of electric motors and rotating equipment
- Provide hands-on technical support for complex mechanical repairs, diagnostics, and troubleshooting
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards, industry specifications, and customer requirements
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing jobs to ensure on-time delivery and clear communication with internal teams (scheduling, shipping, operations)
- Support quoting, estimating, and job costing to ensure accuracy and profitability
- Partner with the Operations Manager and leadership team to drive continuous improvement in shop performance and efficiency
- Monitor department productivity, identify bottlenecks, and implement process improvements
- Maintain proper inventory levels of parts and materials; assist with procurement and vendor coordination
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all safety policies and regulations
- Act as a technical resource and escalation point for mechanical and operational issues
- Collaborate with sales and field service teams to support customer needs and business growth
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in electric motor repair, rotating equipment, or industrial mechanical maintenance
- Strong mechanical knowledge of AC/DC motors, generators, pumps, and related rotating equipment
- Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a shop or industrial environment
- Expertise in teardown, inspection, rebuild and testing processes
- Working knowledge of motor winding and electrical components (preferred but not required to be primary function)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications
- Experience with diagnostics, failure analysis, and root cause identification
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills with both internal teams and customers
