Job Summary:
The Propane Service Technician is responsible for learning and performing all aspects of propane installation and service. This position will work directly in the field and in customer homes installing propane tanks, gas lines, performing site surveys, safety gas checks, and service work including repairs. This role will also be responsible for running propane cylinder and bulk delivery routes as needed. During the summer season this position may be cross trained to operate a Class-B Fuel delivery truck on an as-needed basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a positive representation of Santmyer’s Core Values and providing exceptional customer service daily
- Conduct site surveys to determine what is needed to complete the job per code
- Install propane tanks for commercial and residential customers
- Backfill trenches manually with rake or shovel
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fuel systems according to service requests
- Maintain accurate inventory of assigned parts and equipment
- Deliver bulk propane and cylinders
- Maintain the service vehicle which includes reviewing the maintenance record, performing pre- and post-trip inspections, and reporting all vehicle conditions requiring attention for continued safe operation and proper vehicle maintenance
- Perform all safety checks, housekeeping duties, and job responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
- Other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by the Supervisor
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School diploma, or equivalent
- Clean driving record with a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License, required
- HAZMAT and Tanker Endorsements, required
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate, required
- 1-year CDL driving experience, preferred
- CETP Propane Certification, preferred but will train and assist in obtaining
- Strong customer focus and attention to detail
- Flexibility to work 8 - 12-hour days, Monday-Friday and will be added to the team on-call rotation after completion of training
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to lift 20# (8 hours), bend (4 hours), reach (4 hours), stand/walk (8 hours), sit (4 hours), and move about the worksite and/or facility
- Occasionally required to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds (4 to 6 times per day)
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Required to wear company-provided uniform, safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Work Environment:
- This position operates in a large manufacturing environment using heavy machinery primarily outside. Employees for this position should expect to work on their feet for much of the shift, with or without a reasonable accommodation. The ability to control the shop temperature is limited and impacted by seasons and weather.
