Overview: Our CPA firm is a small to midsize, close-knit accounting firm with team members located across multiple states and countries. We are fully remote and operate in a completely cloud-based environment.
Our firm supports clients throughout the full accounting process, including consulting and advisory services, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, financial reporting, tax planning, and the preparation of both individual and business tax returns.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Bookkeeper who can independently manage multiple clients while working closely with our accounting and tax teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage bookkeeping for multiple clients across various industries
- Perform approximately 20–25 hours per week of accounts payable work for a midsize business
- Process vendor bills and payments while maintaining accurate vendor records
- Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, payroll, and other balance sheet accounts
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures
- Prepare and post adjusting journal entries
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and profit and loss statements
- Experience filing sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions
- Prepare annual Forms 1099 and assist with W-9 collection and vendor reviews
- Reconcile payroll reports and payroll-related accounts
- Assist with accounts receivable and other bookkeeping responsibilities as needed
- Maintain accurate, organized books that are ready for tax return preparation
- Communicate directly with clients regarding missing information, accounting questions, financial reports, and upcoming deadlines
- Work closely with the tax and advisory teams to support tax planning and year-end tax preparation
- Identify bookkeeping issues and recommend improvements to client processes
- Manage multiple deadlines and provide regular updates on assigned work
Qualifications
- At least five years of bookkeeping experience in a public accounting firm
- Hands-on experience using Xero
- Strong understanding of cash- and accrual-basis accounting
- Advanced knowledge of bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Experience completing month-end and year-end closes
- Experience preparing financial statements
- Experience preparing sales tax returns and Forms 1099
- Strong general ledger knowledge and experience preparing adjusting journal entries
- Experience managing accounts payable and vendor payments
- Ability to independently manage multiple clients and competing deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High level of accuracy, organization, accountability, and attention to detail
- Ability to recognize when something does not look right, research the issue, and work toward a resolution
- Comfortable working independently in a fully remote, cloud-based environment
- Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Xero experience or Xero certification
- Experience with QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based accounting platforms
- Experience using accounts payable, payroll, document management, and workflow software
- Experience reviewing or overseeing the work of junior bookkeeping staff
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field

Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
