ABA of Southwest Virginia is excited to expand our Therapeutic Consultation program and is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide consultation services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the Christiansburg area.
As an Occupational Therapist on our Therapeutic Consultation team, you will help individuals maximize independence through functional assessments, environmental modifications, adaptive equipment recommendations, sensory supports, caregiver education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This position emphasizes practical solutions that improve daily functioning across home, community, vocational, and day support environments.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct occupational therapy and functional living assessments.
- Develop individualized Therapeutic Consultation recommendations that support independence in daily activities.
- Recommend adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and sensory supports.
- Provide caregiver and staff training on implementing recommended strategies.
- Collaborate with Support Coordinators, families, Direct Support Professionals, and other service providers.
- Participate in person-centered planning meetings as appropriate.
- Monitor progress and adjust recommendations based on outcomes.
- Complete all required documentation in accordance with Virginia Medicaid Waiver and DBHDS requirements.
Qualifications
- Current Virginia Occupational Therapy license.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Knowledge of sensory integration, adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and independent living supports.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
