The health technician participates in the care of patients in a physician office setting by measuring and recording vital signs, placing patients in rooms, completing simple tasks to prepare patients for exams/procedures and providing patient/family support. The health technician assists the nursing staff and healthcare provider during exams when necessary. Performs clinic specific technical skills.
Responsibilities:
Patient, electronic health record, and exam rooms are appropriately prepared per practice guidelines and provider preference.
Achieves:
- Patient and facility are appropriately prepared prior to exam/procedure.
- Necessary equipment is available and in proper working order.
- Providers receive appropriate assistance with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Serves as a patient care advocate by providing comfort, privacy, and support to the patient and communicates patient's need to the provider.
- Maintains chain of custody of all patient specimens.
- Meets competency requirement for clinic-specific procedures which may include laboratory specimen procurement, emergency response plan, etc.
- Able to identify deviations in vital signs outside of accepted parameters for specific patient clinic populations. Deviations are reported to the appropriate Licensed Medical Practitioner (LMP) or lead nurse.

• Informs patients of practice delays, informs clinic management as appropriate, and monitors patients throughout visit. • Places patients in rooms in a timely manner.
- Facilitates room turnover and room preparation between patients.
- Organizes and reprioritizes work based on patients' needs, available resources, provider requests, and practice requirements.
- Verbal and written communications are clear, accurate, and in accordance with physician protocol, UFHP policies and other regulations.
- Responsible for cleaning and sterilizing of medical instruments.

- Proactively identifies issues with the practice schedule and facilitates resolution.
- Identifies and participates in the implementation of opportunities for improved clinic flow and visit preparation.

Ensures that all members of the healthcare team have current and necessary information to provide safe patient care.
Achieves:
- Demonstrates ability to retrieve information pertinent to the visit.
- Scans documents into patients' medical record per practice guidelines as necessary.
- Access, use and disclosure of PHI are provided to professionals with need to know, in accordance with UFHP policy and procedures.
- Chart documentation reflects the care and/or procedure provided.
- Completes point of care testing after training for performing the test is provided, and hands off results to other members of healthcare team.

- Serves as a preceptor to other staff members.
- Takes initiative to improve and expand existing skills.
Patient phone calls will be processed accurately and in a timely manner per UFHP and practice specific policies.
Achieves:
- Answers telephone in a customer-friendly manner, using patient first guidelines.
- Accurately refers patient's questions to appropriate staff members.
Exceeds:
- Consistently assists others by answering incoming telephone calls and routing messages to appropriate staff.
- Consistently acts in a proactive manner to enhance patient satisfaction.
Practice environment is maintained in accordance with UFHP policies and procedures and safety/infection control standards.
Achieves:
- Rooms are cleaned per infection control standards.
- Rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies routinely per practice protocol.
- Pharmacy and medical supplies are appropriately secured.
- Supplies are ordered and restocked in a timely manner and with attention to cost control.
- Equipment is functional and properly maintained; faulty equipment is promptly removed from service.
- Safety risks are minimized through compliance with policies, procedures and protocols (temperature logs, etc.).
- Ensures emergency readiness and initiates timely emergency measures as appropriate.
- Safety hazards are immediately reported to supervisor.
- Understands and initiates disaster and fire responses per guidelines.
Exceeds:
- Suggests ways to decrease potential safety risks.
- Recognized as a resource for equipment function and troubleshooting.
- Suggests ways to correct safety risks and develops creative solutions to problems.
Contributes to the efficient operation of the practice by performing other related duties as may be required.
Achieves:
- Assigned tasks are performed willingly and within the time frame as requested.
- Assists patients with navigation to the correct areas.
- Maintains a patient centered focus providing hospitable and empathetic service.
- Participates in float staff assistance when requested.
- Day to day clinical operations including ordering supplies, checking equipment, troubleshooting patient care issues, notifying supervisor of any relevant issues, and checks emergency equipment per practice guidelines.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

State of Florida CNA Certification or current nursing student preferred.

Basic Life Support (CPR) is required or must be obtained within the first month of employment.

Person should display initiative, have the ability to multitask and be able to take on responsibilities.

Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.

Understanding of medical terminology preferred.

Must complete clinic-specific training requirements and demonstrate competency of these to UFP nurse education team.

- Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Basic Life Support (CPR) is required or must be obtained within the first month of employment. Must maintain current Basic Life Support (CPR).
