- Must work at least 4 hours in designated timeframe to receive differential.

Position Objective
The Emergency Department Patient Access Representative performs diversified tasks and duties associated with inpatient admissions, emergency and outpatient registrations. The position is responsible for following guidelines to room patients while remaining compliant with state and federal regulations. The Emergency Department Patient Access Representative enters patient information accurately and timely into the electronic medical record.

Scheduling

The Emergency Room is open 24/7. Patient Access needs to be able to work the variety of shifts, as listed in the posting. Including overnights.
- Willingly accepts work assignments, change in daily routine, and hours that may vary to accommodate staffing needs for all areas of ED Patient Access
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform patient registrations while completing them accurately
- Scan needed ID’s and insurance cards

Complete emergency room, outpatient, and inpatient registrations
- Obtain demographic, insurance, and guarantor information as well as appropriate signatures for documentation
- Manage Organizational Telecommunications

Paging Codes-Organization wide

Phone Systems

Ambulance and Law Enforcement

Outgoing flights for Medi flights
-
Contact on-call Physicians to relay messages
-
Find assistance for urgent patients needing help from their vehicle to wheelchair
-
Coordinate on the job development/employee training
-
Manage workqueues to ensure completion of patient charts
-
Keep up to date on all EMR software utilized for the position
-
Identify patients as they are entering the ER area
-
Assist patients in registration, sitting them in a wheelchair if needed, and contacting the Triage nurse/Charge Nurse as needed

Follow guidelines developed to assist in rooming patients
-
Remain within a PAR’s scope of practice while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations for patient care

Monitor overflow patients when rooms are full and alert nursing if patient’s status changes

Responsible for locking down Alomere Health during emergent situations

Manage the Alarm Systems

Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior healthcare experience
- Medical Secretarial training, medical terminology, or related experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong customer service skills when interacting with all patients, family members, and healthcare team
- Knowledge in computer software, including Microsoft Office
- Ability to remain professional, calm, and maintain a caring composure when faced with difficult or stressful situations in a higher acuity patient setting-
- Ability to multi-task with emphasis on accuracy and patient privacy
- Ability to learn new procedures and protocols while incorporating them into current work flows
- Strong communication and organizational skills and pay attention to detail
