NC Health Partners is seeking an engaging, compassionate, and dependable School-Based Therapist to provide behavioral health services to students at Lexington Middle School and Lexington High School during the 2026–2027 school year.
This is a part-time position ideal for a licensed or associate-licensed clinician who enjoys working with adolescents and wants to make a meaningful impact by providing accessible mental health services directly within the school environment.
Position Overview
The School-Based Therapist will provide individual and/or family-based therapeutic services to students experiencing behavioral, emotional, social, and mental health challenges that may impact their functioning at school, home, or within the community.
The therapist will work collaboratively with students, families, school personnel, and other members of the student's support system while maintaining appropriate clinical boundaries and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual therapeutic services to middle and high school students.
- Complete comprehensive clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans based on identified needs.
- Utilize evidence-based and strengths-based interventions to address concerns such as anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, behavioral challenges, family conflict, peer relationships, self-esteem, trauma, and school-related stressors.
- Provide crisis assessment and intervention when clinically appropriate.
- Engage parents and caregivers in treatment when appropriate and clinically indicated.
- Collaborate with school counselors, social workers, administrators, teachers, and other support personnel while maintaining HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
- Coordinate care with community providers and other members of the student's treatment team as appropriate.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation in accordance with agency, payer, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions and treatment goals based on clinical need.
- Participate in required supervision, clinical consultation, and agency meetings.
- Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with school administration and personnel.
- Follow all NC Health Partners policies and procedures and applicable professional and ethical standards.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or another qualifying behavioral health discipline.
- Current North Carolina clinical license or associate license, such as LCSW/LCSWA, LCMHC/LCMHCA, or LMFT/LMFTA.
- Experience providing behavioral health services to children and/or adolescents.
- Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while remaining collaborative and responsive to the clinical and school-based team.
- Ability to successfully complete all required background checks and school clearance requirements.
Preferred:
- Previous experience providing school-based mental health services.
- Experience working with middle and/or high school students.
- Experience providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based treatment.
- Familiarity with Medicaid-funded behavioral health services and documentation requirements.
Schedule
- Part-Time
- Services provided during the 2026–2027 academic school year
- Primary service locations: Lexington Middle School and Lexington High School
- School-day schedule with flexibility based on student needs, referrals, and school schedules
- Position follows the applicable school calendar for school-based service delivery
