Part-Time Family Liaison - Valor High School
Position Summary: The Family Liaison strengthens family-school partnerships that help every student thrive. This role fosters a sense of belonging and connection by ensuring families have access to the information, resources, and opportunities they need to support their child’s learning and growth. The Family Liaison also helps create meaningful ways for families and caregivers to share their perspectives and participate in decisions that shape their child’s experience and the broader school community. Family engagement is most powerful when it is both systemic—woven into the structures and practices of the school—and intentional—rooted in purposeful, relationship-based strategies that build trust and collaboration among families, educators, and community partners. The Family Liaison serves as a bridge between home and school, providing support, referrals, and advocacy for all families, and helping connect them to relevant school and community resources, with particular attention to those who may face barriers to access. In addition to serving their individual school community, each Family Liaison is an active member of the Waltham Public Schools Family Engagement Team, participating in monthly department meetings and district events that advance shared goals for equity and engagement across the district. Responsibilities: 1. Family Partnerships and Engagement (35%) Build trusting, inclusive relationships with families and caregivers to foster belonging and shared investment in student success. Serve as an accessible point of contact for families with questions or concerns, ensuring they feel supported, informed, and valued. Support family/caregiver access to pertinent school based meetings and conferences if language supports are needed including, but not limited to, family/teacher meetings, family/admin meetings; IEP meetings; discipline hearings; evening events. In collaboration with the administrative team, they design and facilitate school- and community-based events that foster family engagement, celebrate student learning, and strengthen school-community connections. Create and support opportunities for families to share their perspectives, contribute to decision-making, and participate in school life. Communicate regularly with families in accessible and culturally responsive ways. Support families in learning how to access and use school platforms and other technologies to stay connected with their child’s education. 2. Access, Advocacy, and Resource Connection (35%) Serve as a bridge between home, school, and community, connecting families to relevant school and community resources and supports. Provide referrals and advocacy for families, with special attention to those facing barriers such as language, transportation, housing instability, or other challenges. Serve as the McKinney-Vento (MKV) Homeless Education point of contact for the school, ensuring families experiencing homelessness are aware of their rights and connected to supports. Participate in monthly interagency meetings with community-based partners, and actively build awareness of, and relationships with, local organizations and service providers. Serve as a School-based initial point of contact to the Parent Information Center, supporting families with school registration, enrollment, and transportation processes. 3. Collaboration and Professional Learning (20%) Work closely with school administrators, counselors, and teachers to strengthen communication and alignment between families and the school. Work collaboratively with school-based teams (e.g. EWIS, STAT, Grade-Level Teams) to identify and respond to student and family needs. Participate in monthly Family Liaison department meetings and professional development opportunities to share best practices and align efforts across Waltham Public Schools. Contribute to district-level initiatives that promote equity, access, and family engagement. 4. Data Management and Reporting (5%) Maintain accurate records of outreach, engagement activities, and referrals in accordance with district procedures and confidentiality guidelines. Track and report on family engagement efforts, participation, and outcomes to inform school and district practices. 5. Additional Responsibilities (5%) Perform other duties as assigned to support the school’s mission and WPS Family and Community Engagement goals.
Qualifications and Skills: Multi-language is preferred. Demonstrated experience working in urban, multicultural, and multilingual settings. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal). Familiarity with Waltham community resources and the Waltham Public Schools is a plus. Technological proficiency with Google Suite and web-based platforms; experience with school communication tools and databases like Aspen & ParentSquare is preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and set and maintain professional boundaries. Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
