Brian J. McManus & Associates, Ltd. is a well-established plaintiff's law firm located in the heart of Chicago's Loop. For over 30 years, our firm has represented injured clients in personal injury and workers' compensation matters throughout Illinois. We are seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team.
Position: Legal Assistant – Personal Injury & Workers' Compensation
Location: Chicago Loop and/or Barrington (In-Office)
Salary: $45,000–$55,000 annually, based on experience
Responsibilities:
- Open and maintain client files in an organized manner
- Communicate professionally with clients, insurance adjusters, medical providers, and opposing counsel
- Request and organize medical records, bills, and lien information
- Draft correspondence and basic legal documents
- Prepare and file pleadings with Illinois state courts and the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission
- Schedule depositions, hearings, medical appointments, and client meetings
- Monitor deadlines and maintain attorney calendars
- Assist attorneys with case preparation from intake through settlement or trial
- Perform general administrative and office support duties as needed
Qualifications
- 2+ years of legal assistant experience, preferably in personal injury and/or workers' compensation
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Experience using CompFile and Odyssey eFile is a plus
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small, team-oriented office
- Professional, dependable, and client-focused attitude
