Job Title: Banquet Cook / Line Cook
Reports to: Sous Chef
Department: Food and Beverage
Location: The Mayo Hotel
Hours: 40-50 hours per week, over a five-day period
General Purpose:
The Cook is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the kitchen, particularly during high-volume meal periods and large catering events. This includes overseeing food production, maintaining quality control, training line cooks, and ensuring cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. The Banquet Cook ensures that food is prepared to high standards and presented according to the venue's specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook high-quality dishes for banquets and special events.
- Oversee food production processes to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Train and mentor line cooks, providing guidance on cooking techniques and standards.
- Monitor food presentation to maintain consistency with restaurant or venue standards.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Assist in menu planning and development for various events.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to coordinate meal service and timing.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including regular sanitation of equipment and utensils.
- Participate in inventory management, including ordering and restocking supplies as needed.
- Adapt to changing menus and special requests with flexibility and creativity.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a cook in a high-volume kitchen or banquet environment.
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs).
- Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain composure during peak times.
Pay: From $16.00 per hour
