We are seeking a reliable, organized, and compassionate Referral Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will assist with coordinating patient referrals, specialist appointments, medical records, and follow-up communication to ensure patients receive timely care.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and process patient referrals to specialists, imaging centers, therapy offices, and other healthcare facilities.
- Obtain prior authorizations for referrals, procedures, imaging, and medications as required by insurance.
- Communicate with patients regarding referral status, appointment details, required documents, and follow-up instructions.
- Fax, upload, and send medical records, labs, imaging results, and progress notes to referral offices as needed.
- Follow up with specialist offices to confirm appointments, obtain consult notes, and track referral completion.
- Answer phone calls appropriately.
- Maintain organized referral logs and ensure pending referrals are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and clinic policies.
- Assist with basic Medical Assistant duties when needed, including rooming patients, taking vitals, and documenting information.
Qualifications
- Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance plans, and referral processes.
- Experience with eClinicalWorks or electronic medical records preferred.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
- Ability to work well with providers, coworkers, patients, and outside specialist offices.
- Basic computer skills required. Typing skills required.
