Pay: $38.00 – $44.00 per hour, depending on experience
About the Role
East Bay Logistics Company is hiring a Driver Lead for our San Lorenzo, CA location to lead our delivery fleet. This is a working lead position: you will spend part of your week behind the wheel making deliveries throughout the Bay Area, and the remainder coordinating routes, mentoring drivers, and keeping the fleet running safely and on schedule. The Driver Lead is the day-to-day point of contact between our drivers and management, setting the standard for safety, professionalism, and reliable service throughout the East Bay region. Requirements
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record
- Minimum of 3 years of commercial driving experience
- Prior lead, trainer, or supervisory experience preferred
- Current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and ability to pass DOT drug and alcohol testing
- Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS)
- Excellent time management, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to coordinate schedules, solve problems quickly, and lead by example
- Ability to safely load, transport, and unload cargo
Leadership Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead point of contact for the delivery fleet and its drivers
- Assign and adjust daily routes and delivery schedules to maximize on-time performance and efficiency
- Coordinate driver coverage for absences, peak demand, and equipment downtime
- Onboard, train, and mentor drivers on company procedures, safety standards, and customer service expectations
- Monitor driver compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and HOS requirements, and address issues promptly
- Oversee that pre-trip and post-trip inspections are completed and that defects are reported and resolved
- Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs with management to keep all trucks roadworthy
- Review delivery paperwork, logs, and records for accuracy and completeness
- Report fleet performance, incidents, and maintenance concerns to the Fleet / Operations Manager
- Help resolve escalated customer issues and support drivers in the field as needed
Driving Responsibilities
- Load, transport, and deliver items to clients and businesses safely and on time
- Review orders before and after delivery to verify completeness, accurate charges, and customer satisfaction
- Follow assigned routes and adhere to established delivery schedules
- Comply with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT and FMCSA requirements
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting any defects or maintenance concerns
- Verify weight distribution and ensure loads do not exceed legal limits before departure
- Operate the vehicle defensively, maintaining safe following distances and adjusting for weather, traffic, and road conditions
- Maintain Hours of Service (HOS) logs and take required rest breaks to prevent fatigued driving
- Immediately report any accidents, near-misses, traffic violations, or unsafe conditions to management
- Refrain from using mobile devices while driving and never operate the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or impairing medications
- Participate in ongoing safety training and submit to required drug and alcohol testing per DOT regulations
- Record cargo deliveries accurately and obtain client signatures as needed
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude in all interactions and keep CDL current, reporting any changes in driving status promptly
