Job Title: St. James Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Director
Terms: Full time position
Salary: $42,000 annually
Position Summary
The Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Director serves as the operational leader responsible for advancing economic vitality, business engagement, community development, destination marketing, and tourism growth for the St. James area. This role functions as both the Director of the Chamber of Commerce and the Director of Tourism for the City of St. James. The Director provides strategic leadership while also executing daily operational, marketing, financial, and administrative responsibilities necessary to support the organization and community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage all Chamber of Commerce and tourism operations.
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives supporting business growth and tourism development.
- Serve as the primary liaison between businesses, community leaders, local government, and regional partners.
- Oversee community engagement efforts, public relations, and organizational communications.
- Manage annual budgets, sponsorship revenue, contracts, billing, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate and execute signature events, networking opportunities, and community programs.
- Maintain Chamber and tourism websites, social media platforms, and marketing campaigns.
- Provide leadership to volunteers, advisory boards, and community committees.
- Plan and execute Chamber events.
- Support economic development initiatives and regional collaboration efforts.
Membership & Business Development
- Maintain and grow a membership base of approximately 220 members.
- Develop recruitment and retention strategies for Chamber membership.
- Coordinate ribbon cuttings, business celebrations, and member recognition efforts.
- Promote member businesses through newsletters, social media, and community campaigns.
- Connect businesses with resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy initiatives.
Tourism & Destination Marketing
- Manage the Visit St. James tourism brand and promotional efforts.
- Develop annual tourism marketing plans and advertising campaigns.
- Coordinate tourism-focused content creation including photography, video, and storytelling campaigns.
- Maintain visitor services and oversee operations of the St. James Tourist Center.
Administrative & Financial Operations
- Prepare and manage annual operating budgets.
- Track sponsorships, event revenue, and tourism-related funding.
- Maintain financial records, contracts, and operational documentation.
- Prepare board meeting agendas, reports, and meeting minutes.
- Handle daily administrative tasks including email correspondence, scheduling, and record management.
Events & Community Engagement
- Coordinate and support Chamber, tourism, and community events throughout the year, including networking functions, fundraising initiatives, tourism promotions, and seasonal community celebrations.
- Work collaboratively with volunteers, sponsors, businesses, and community partners to ensure successful event planning, promotion, and execution.

Qualifications
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Experience in event planning, marketing, communications, or nonprofit management preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with social media, digital marketing, and Microsoft Office platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively with businesses, volunteers, local government, and community stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Economic development or tourism marketing experience.
- Experience managing budgets and sponsorship programs.
- Knowledge of community engagement and public relations strategies.
- Graphic design, website management, or content creation experience preferred.
Work Environment
This position requires occasional evening and weekend work for events, meetings, and community activities. The Director must be comfortable working independently while managing a high volume of projects and community relationships.
