Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in animal care and possess the necessary skills to assist veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to our patients. This role requires a commitment to animal welfare, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
We are a privately owned, AAHA Accredited, 4 doctor practice in Norwalk CT. Our doctors provide routine examinations, preventative care, a wide range of surgical procedures, and both routine and complicated dental care. We are also thrilled to have welcomed a part time board certified Internal Medicine Specialist in 2024. We boast a great daytime schedule that prioritizes work/life balance. Our technicians are encouraged to practice at the top of their abilities and skill set.
Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
- Perform laboratory tests, including blood work and urinalysis.
- Perform radiographs and assist doctors in ultrasound procedures.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor patients during anesthesia and recovery.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for each patient.
- Provide education to pet owners regarding proper pet care and health maintenance.
- Handle animals safely and compassionately, ensuring their comfort during procedures. We prioritize fear free patient handling.
- Perform dental imaging and cleanings and assist with dental procedures using appropriate terminology.
- Utilize aseptic techniques during surgical procedures to prevent infection.
- Support the overall cleanliness and organization of the hospital environment.
Qualifications
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician is required.
- Possess a strong understanding of veterinary terminology and animal physiology.
- Experience in animal handling, including dog handling and restraint techniques.
- Knowledge of animal anatomy and husbandry practices is essential.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment.
- Experience in veterinary critical care is a plus.
- Ability to perform tasks such as animal catheterization, X-ray imaging, and dental cleanings.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with clients and team members.
