Duties
- Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort.
- Conduct ophthalmic diagnostic tests such as A-scan ultrasound measurements, tonometry for intraocular pressure, and eye refraction assessments.
- Operate ophthalmic equipment including slit lamps, visual acuity charts, and imaging devices to assist in accurate diagnosis.
- Assist with patient intake processes, including collecting medical history and vital signs while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
- Support ophthalmologists during examinations by managing medical records and documenting findings accurately within electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique during procedures to prevent infection and uphold clinical confidentiality policies.
- Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and post-examination care to promote ongoing patient service excellence.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or ophthalmology clinic is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy of the eye, and ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR) management systems.
- Familiarity with clinical confidentiality policies such as HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy at all times.
- Ability to operate specialized medical equipment including A-scan ultrasound devices and tonometers accurately.
- Strong patient service skills with a focus on direct patient care and compassionate communication.
- Basic retail math skills for inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and optical products is a plus.
