The Lead Teacher works cooperatively and collaboratively with their teaching team to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that meet the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of the children. This role is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the curriculum in their respective classrooms, supervising all teachers and teacher aides working in their respective classrooms, and having regular meetings with the Program Coordinator or Director to ensure all expectations in their classrooms are being met.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implementation of the Escuela Viva Curriculum Framework and classroom expectations detailed in the Guiding Principles binder (i.e. field trips, project work, parent meetings, Spanish, etc.)
- Model all behavior that is expected of staff, parents, and children including language, tone of voice, personal energy, and so forth.
- Establish a partnership with parents to support the needs of each child, through parent potlucks, email communication, feedback at the start or end of the day, and set up individual meetings as necessary.
- Support parent-teacher conferences twice a year
- Oversee and support portfolio development
- Provide and/or ensure adequate supervision of children during school hours.
- Organize and clean materials available to the children regularly.
- Using provocations and following the children’s lead, guide children through project work.
- Support child-initiated play, and children in their goals by providing challenging and motivating activities during activity and center time.
- Observations and assessments for each student
- Ensure teachers have documented children’s artwork, play, discussions, and all other projects using written description and photography; including children’s work (weekly) for parents and children to see in the classroom and online daily.
- Post all upcoming activities in the classroom on the Parent Board.
- Support teachers in the successful planning and execution of the Classroom Newsletter.
- Mentor teaching assistants and assist in orienting and guiding new teachers working in the classroom
- Efficiently plan class field trips
- Maintains a professional image and manner consistent with the mission and goals of Escuela Viva
- Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by program needs, and the owner of Escuela Viva.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors or Masters in Education
- Two years of teaching experience in early childhood
- At a minimum, Step 8.5 on the Oregon Registry
- Familiarity and compliance with the CCD Rules for Certified Childcare Centers
- Classroom management and organizational skills
- Problem-solving and management skills
- Computer and word processing skills
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must pass a full background check, including fingerprinting, references, and DELC requirements.
- Must be medically fit to perform all job duties.
- Warm, friendly, caring, upbeat personality. Exceptional people skills in dealing with young children, families, and staff.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
