Responsibilities
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) accurately while adhering to safety protocols
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories and vital signs to ensure safe treatment planning
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
- Assist the dentist with procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficient workflow
- Maintain precise documentation of patient records, treatment notes, and medical histories within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental equipment, to ensure a safe environment for all patients
- Monitor and manage dental equipment operation, ensuring all tools are functioning properly and maintained according to manufacturer guidelines
- Uphold HIPAA compliance by safeguarding patient confidentiality and managing medical records securely
- Support pediatric dentistry cases by applying specialized care techniques for children and adolescents
Experience
- Proven experience as a Dental Hygienist in a general or family dentistry setting with familiarity in both pediatric and adult patient care
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation and scheduling purposes
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control standards
- Hands-on experience with dental x-ray procedures, medical imaging, and electronic health records management (EMR/EHR) systems
- Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients about dental health practices and treatment plans
- Ability to perform chairside assisting duties efficiently while maintaining a friendly, professional demeanor
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices including aseptic technique and sterilization procedures
