The Hatfield and McCoy Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing Appalachian heritage through cultural education, tourism, storytelling, and community engagement. Based in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the organization connects visitors and local residents to the rich history, traditions, and culture of Appalachia through educational exhibits, public programs, special events, and volunteer opportunities that strengthen community connections and regional identity. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will strengthen the Foundation’s communications and storytelling capacity by developing tools that increase awareness of Appalachian heritage, programs, and community initiatives. Responsibilities may include developing a toolkit for staff to create website and social media content, developing communication calendars, collecting community stories, creating outreach materials, and supporting digital storytelling efforts that highlight the Foundation’s impact. The member will also create sustainable communication systems, including templates, content resources, and outreach tools that support staff, volunteers, and community partners. Through this work, the VISTA member will expand the Foundation’s reach and connect more people to Appalachian history, culture, and educational opportunities.
