Hourly Wage: Starting at $18.00 per hour.

Position Summary
Johnson City Library is seeking a friendly, passionate Library Assistant who loves connecting with people and building community. This position combines daily library operations and responsibilities with the opportunity to connect the library and community through creative programs and services. We’re looking for someone who enjoys engaging with people of all ages and is eager to help make the library a welcoming hub for learning, connection, and growth.
We are especially interested in candidates who can help us expand services and programming for Spanish-speaking members of our community.
Essential Functions
- Plans, prepares, and facilitates library programs and events for all ages.
- Collaborates with community members and organizations to identify interests and develop relevant programming.
- Provides excellent customer service at the front desk, including circulation, reference assistance, and basic technology support.
- Assists patrons with library resources, services, and technology.
- Supports collection maintenance and other daily library operations.
- Participates in short-term and long-term planning for programs, services, grants, and special projects.
- Shares responsibility for building supervision, upkeep, and opening/closing procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is highly desirable.
- Experience working with Spanish-speaking families and community members is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working or volunteering in a library, educational, nonprofit, or community-focused setting.
- Experience planning, coordinating, or facilitating programs, classes, events, or activities.
- Experience working with children, teens, or families.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Comfortable using computers, smartphones, and common technology.
- Experience with crafts, music, STEM activities, GED & ESL, or educational programming is a plus.
- Creative, organized, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
