Job Description:
At California Recovery Center, we know that meals are more than just food; they are a vital part of the healing process for our clients. Nutritious, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared meals provide comfort, stability, and support as clients focus on their recovery.
The Chef will work with the Operations Team and the rest of the Clinical Team to provide nutritious, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared meals for our clients.
Education and Training Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- California Food Handler Card
- Minimum of 3-4 years of cooking experience in a commercial kitchen, healthcare, or recovery center setting preferred
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices
- Ability to follow recipes, adjust for dietary needs, and manage multiple meals at once
- Reliable transportation and punctuality required
- Ability to lift items and stand for extended periods
- Current TB test results
- Must pass a comprehensive background check.
- Valid ID and SSN
- Proof of Covid Vaccination
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
DHCS requires licensed AOD facilities to provide:
- Three nutritious meals per day
- Snacks
- Menus that meet dietary needs
- Host nutritional meetings
Ensure the following written policies are established and maintained:
- Food storage
- Sanitation
- Meal preparation
- Special diets
- Staff training
These policies are reviewed during licensing and certification inspections.
While DHCS doesn’t dictate menu specifics, the facility must demonstrate that food service supports client health and recovery.
- Coordinate and direct all food preparation and service for the clients
- Prepare and serve meals up to 23-25 clients daily
- Monitor the quality of all the food
- Track, record, and maintain inventory stock including food and kitchen supplies and equipment
- Delegate daily tasks to the staff; manage their progress throughout the day
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including daily and deep cleaning
- Develop weekly menus; maintain copies of previous menus for a minimum of 30 days
- Oversee entire kitchen staff activity and ensure efficient work
- Order and arrange pickup or delivery of foods for the week to ensure smooth kitchen operations
- Manage groceries and supplies for all the facilities
- Oversee repairs of kitchen appliances
- Direct and design and plating/presentation techniques for all dishes
- Create new recipes and design overall menu
- Track food cost and determine pricing for menu items accordingly
- Hire and train new kitchen staff, as necessary
- Work efficiently to resolve any problems that arise in the kitchen
- Research and implement new culinary trends
- Maintain a clean kitchen and abide by all state food safety and sanitation laws

Pay: $70,300.00 - $70,304.00 per year
