Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the primary responsibilities for the CASA Volunteer Supervisor is to provide supervision, case management, training, and coordination for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers assigned to open dependency court cases. The Volunteer Supervisor ensures volunteers are equipped to provide high-quality advocacy that promotes the safety, well-being, and permanency of children served by the program.
This is an administrative position. The Volunteer Supervisor does not provide direct case management services to children but supports, coaches, and supervises volunteers who advocate on behalf of children involved in the dependency court system.
The Volunteer Supervisor must possess a trauma-informed perspective when working with children and families, an understanding of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect, and a working knowledge of the child welfare and/or juvenile justice systems
Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Supervision and Case Management
- Complete CASA Volunteer training and maintain required continuing education.
- Assist with the recruitment, screening, interviewing, and selection of prospective CASA volunteers.
- Review incoming referrals and assist with volunteer case assignments in collaboration with the Program Manager.
Documentation and Data Management
- Maintain accurate and timely case files.
- Ensure volunteer, child, and case information is accurately entered and maintained in the CASA database.
- Monitor completion of required documentation and data collection.
- Prepare statistical, program, and activity reports as requested.
- Maintain confidentiality of all case and volunteer information.
Program Support
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
- Assist with community outreach, volunteer recruitment, fundraising events, and public education efforts.
- Provide office coverage as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
- Prepare and distribute assignment documentation.
- Monitor case activity and maintain awareness of court hearings and case timelines.
- Attend court hearings when appropriate to support volunteers and represent the CASA program.
- Participate in pre-service volunteer training and continuing education opportunities.
- Orient newly assigned volunteers to case responsibilities, policies, and procedures.
- Support volunteer engagement, retention, and professional development.
- Assist with volunteer appreciation activities and recognition events.
- Supervise a caseload of approximately 20 CASA volunteers.
- Maintain regular contact with assigned volunteers, with a minimum of one documented supervisory contact per month.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and consultation to volunteers using sound judgment and creative problem-solving.
- Support volunteers in developing effective advocacy strategies and case plans.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between volunteers, social workers, attorneys, caregivers, service providers, and court personnel.
- Assist volunteers in preparing court reports, contact logs, and required documentation.
- Review volunteer court reports for quality, accuracy, and compliance prior to submission.
- Ensure volunteers understand and follow CASA policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
- Conduct volunteer performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, and participate in volunteer recognition and exit interviews as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Knowledge of child abuse, neglect, trauma, and family systems.
- Working knowledge of child welfare and/or juvenile court systems preferred.
- Experience working in human services, child welfare, education, behavioral health, nonprofit organizations, or related fields preferred.
- Experience supervising, supporting, or coordinating volunteers is preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.

Education and Experience:
Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Education, or a related field is preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
Environmental factors and conditions/physical:
- Valid California driver's license.
- Reliable transportation, current automobile insurance, and ability to travel throughout the service area.
- Ability to work occasional evenings.
- Successful completion of all required background clearances, including: DOJ Fingerprint Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, Child Abuse Central Index (CACI), DMV Record Check
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with regular travel throughout the service area for meetings, court appearances, training, outreach events, and community partnerships.
This position regularly involves exposure to emotionally difficult situations, including cases involving child abuse, neglect, family violence, substance use, and other traumatic experiences. Employees should possess the ability to maintain professional boundaries and practice effective self-care.
Occasional evening work may be required.
Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
