Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one, resident-specific activities as outlined in individual care plans for residents with dementia or behavioral concerns who are experiencing agitation or frustration. Utilize activities to help de-escalate anxiety and reduce the potential for behavioral outbursts.
- Observe residents and promptly report signs of anxiety, agitation, or frustration to the nurse for assessment.
- Remain flexible and willing to try new approaches and activities to help reduce resident anxiety, agitation, and frustration. Report successful and unsuccessful interventions to the MDS Coordinator to assist with care plan revisions.
- Assist Activity Department personnel with group activities as needed.
- Immediately report any known or suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, injuries of unknown source, or misappropriation of resident property to the Charge Nurse.
- Immediately report any resident incident or accident to the Charge Nurse.
- Maintain the confidentiality of resident protected health information in accordance with facility policies and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Additional Duties
The Dementia Unit Aide may perform non-direct care support tasks, including:
- Maintaining supply inventory.
- Laying out residents' clothing.
- Cleaning resident drawers and closets.
- Making beds.
- Filling and changing water containers.
- Cleaning dentures, eyeglasses, and shower chairs.
- Restocking personal care supplies.
- Passing snacks and meal trays.
- Cleaning wheelchairs and tray tables.
- Cleaning up bowel movement or urine accidents.
- Emptying commodes and urinals.
- Wiping up spills.
- Removing trash.
- Transporting residents to the dining room and activities.
- Washing pads.
Position Limitation
This position does not provide personal care services. Dementia Unit Aides are not permitted to transfer residents, assist with toileting, dressing, feeding, bathing, or perform any other activities of daily living (ADLs).
Pay: $15.15 per hour
