Manitowoc County is looking for dedicated, calm, and service-minded individuals to join our Emergency Services team as a Public Safety Communicator at the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center (MCJDC).
As a Public Safety Communicator, you are often the first point of contact during emergencies. Your work directly impacts the safety and well-being of our community by helping connect people in need with the appropriate emergency response services.
As a member of our dispatch team, you will:

Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone calls
-
Receive and manage radio communications
-
Dispatch law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency services
-
Operate the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
-
Access and utilize the Department of Criminal Justice Information (DCI) terminal
-
Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database
-
Provide critical information and support to emergency responders
-
Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation

Candidates hired as trainees will complete an intensive 12–16 week training program that includes:

The Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Communicators work rotating 8-hour shifts, including:

6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
-
10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
-
10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
-
7:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.
Schedules follow a rotating pattern of:
5 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on, 3 days off (5/2/5/3)
Training schedules may vary. After successful completion of training, shift assignments are based on seniority and operational needs.
Current openings are on third shift (night shift).

Applicants will complete a specialized aptitude assessment designed to identify individuals with the skills and abilities needed for 911 dispatching.
Aptitude testing, background investigation, and drug screening are required.
