We are currently seeking a Somali Operational Language Analyst Native (OLAN III) to support mission-critical intelligence operations at Fort Meade, Maryland. This position is ideal for native Somali linguists with advanced language proficiency and extensive experience translating and analyzing foreign language materials in support of the Intelligence Community.
The Somali Operational Language Analyst Native (OLAN III) provides expert translation and language analysis services in support of national security missions. This role requires native-level Somali language proficiency, exceptional translation skills, and the ability to produce accurate, idiomatic English translations of operational and intelligence-related materials in a highly classified environment.
Essential Job Functions:
Translate written materials from Somali into idiomatic, standard American English.
Analyze foreign language materials to identify information of intelligence value.
Produce accurate, timely, and mission-focused translation products in accordance with Government standards.
Support intelligence operations by translating operational, technical, legal, political, military, and cultural documents.
Maintain linguistic accuracy while preserving the meaning, context, and intent of the source material.
Conduct language analysis and cultural research to support intelligence production.
Collaborate with intelligence analysts and Government personnel to support operational requirements.
Ensure all translation products comply with Government quality standards and security requirements.
Maintain strict adherence to classification guidance and information security procedures.
Perform additional language support and analytical duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance with a Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph.
Minimum Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Level 3 proficiency in Listening and/or Reading.
ILR certification must be documented within two (2) years prior to resume submission.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or Bachelor's degree equivalency through an additional four (4) years of directly related, practical work experience, for a total of eight (8) years of qualifying experience.
Additionally, candidates must possess:
A minimum of four (4) years of full-time experience translating written materials from Somali into idiomatic, standard American English.
At least one (1) year of experience typing on an English keyboard.
Native Language Requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following native language requirements:
Option 1
Learned Somali from birth.
Received formal education in and through Somali for a minimum of ten (10) years in a country where Somali is an official, national, or commonly spoken language.
Option 2 (Language/Dialect Exception)
If the required language or dialect is not an official or national language and formal education is not conducted in that language, candidates must:
Have learned and used Somali since birth.
Have used the language continuously for at least fifteen (15) years in a region where Somali is commonly spoken by a historically rooted population.
Demonstrate regular use of the language in social, cultural, educational, employment, commercial, or other public settings beyond immediate family or household interactions.

Desired Skills:
Experience supporting the National Security Agency (NSA), Department of Defense (DoD), or the Intelligence Community (IC).
Experience translating intelligence, military, technical, or operational documentation.
Strong understanding of Intelligence Community translation standards and quality assurance processes.
Experience working in high-tempo, mission-driven classified environments.
Familiarity with intelligence reporting and analytical workflows.
