Job Description
Five Borough Electric Inc. is a licensed New York City electrical contractor performing commercial, institutional, and multifamily electrical work, including service and switchgear replacements, riser and feeder upgrades, fire alarm systems, and building-systems power. We are hiring an Assistant Project Manager with hands-on electrical field experience who is ready to transition into the office side of the business while staying connected to field operations.
This is a hands-on role. You will support Project Managers and Estimators from buyout through closeout, and you will be on job sites regularly while also supporting office-based project management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers with day-to-day management of multiple electrical projects from award through punch list and closeout
- Review drawings, specifications, and shop drawings; identify scope gaps and conflicts early
- Prepare and track submittals, RFIs, and change order requests
- Solicit and compare vendor and subcontractor quotes for gear, fixtures, wire, and specialty systems
- Generate purchase orders, expedite long-lead equipment such as switchgear, transformers, and generators, and track deliveries against the schedule
- Perform site walks to verify installed quantities, monitor manpower, and report progress against budget
- Support monthly requisitions, cost coding, and labor tracking; identify budget variances for review with the Project Manager
- Coordinate with general contractors, building management, engineers, and inspection agencies, including DOB, special inspections, and utility coordination
- Maintain project documentation, as-builts, O&M manuals, and closeout packages
- Assist with shutdown and outage planning and site logistics in occupied buildings
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of relevant electrical field experience, including apprentice, journeyman, or foreman-level experience
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, riser diagrams, panel schedules, and specifications
- Working knowledge of the NEC and applicable NYC Electrical Code requirements
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills; comfortable with Word, Outlook, and PDF markup tools such as Bluebeam or Adobe
- Clear written and verbal communication with field crews, clients, and inspectors
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between job sites across the five boroughs
- OSHA 30 certification, or willingness to obtain within 60 days
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with occupied-building work, phased shutdowns, and after-hours outages
- Familiarity with NYC Electrical Code, including applicable NEC requirements and amendments
- Exposure to estimating software, Procore, or similar project management platforms
- NYC Site Safety Training (SST) card
- Knowledge of fire alarm systems, firestopping requirements, and low-voltage/controls scope
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent relevant field experience

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
