Job Title: Montessori Toddler Teacher – Afternoon Shift
Location: Best Kids Academy Montessori
Hours: Part-Time, Monday to Friday, 2:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Position Summary:
We are seeking a nurturing, dependable, and dedicated Montessori Toddler Teacher to support our classroom of children ages 18 months to 3 years during the afternoon shift. The ideal candidate will have experience working with toddlers, understand Montessori principles, and be passionate about supporting children's independence and development in a calm, respectful, and engaging environment.
The Afternoon Teacher works closely with the Toddler Lead Teacher to provide consistency throughout the school day and is responsible for maintaining established classroom routines, Montessori practices, safety standards, parent communication, and classroom readiness through closing.
Chinese language skills (Mandarin) are a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility for the Toddler classroom during the afternoon shift and maintain the routines, expectations, and Montessori environment established by the Lead Teacher.
- Maintain active supervision, accurate head counts, and required child-to-staff ratios at all times.
- Implement developmentally appropriate, Montessori-aligned lessons, activities, and classroom routines in coordination with the Toddler Lead Teacher.
- Support children's independence, language development, motor development, social-emotional growth, and Practical Life skills.
- Create a warm, calm, consistent, and respectful environment that encourages exploration and confident learning.
- Observe children and communicate meaningful developmental, behavioral, or classroom observations to the Lead Teacher.
- Support children with toileting, diapering, handwashing, self-care, snack, and other daily routines as needed.
- Guide children through afternoon transitions, activities, outdoor time, enrichment, and dismissal in a safe and organized manner.
- Maintain a safe, organized, clean, and inviting classroom environment with Montessori materials accessible and appropriately maintained.
- Encourage children to independently select, complete, and return classroom materials and participate in care of the environment.
- Complete required daily documentation and child updates, including snacks, toileting/diapering, activities, incidents, and other required information.
- Build positive relationships with families and provide warm, professional, and child-specific communication during afternoon pickup.
- Communicate important parent messages, incidents, behavioral concerns, classroom needs, and other relevant information to the Lead Teacher and/or administration.
- Reset Montessori materials, organize the classroom, complete assigned cleaning and sanitation responsibilities, and leave the environment prepared for the following school day.
- Collaborate professionally with the Lead Teacher and other team members to provide consistency throughout the child's school day.
- Follow all childcare licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, school policies, and emergency procedures.
- Assist with classroom or school-wide coverage when needed while maintaining appropriate supervision and ratios.
Qualifications:
- Montessori certification preferred, particularly Infant/Toddler Montessori training.
- Previous experience working with toddlers in a preschool, Montessori school, or licensed childcare setting.
- Strong understanding of toddler development and age-appropriate expectations.
- Warm, patient, dependable, and professional demeanor.
- Strong classroom management and active supervision skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with families and coworkers.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a Lead Teacher and maintain established classroom systems and expectations.
- Comfortable assisting with toileting, diapering, feeding, and other toddler care routines.
- Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, stand for extended periods, and safely lift or assist young children as required.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Ability to complete all required childcare training and pass required background checks.
- Mandarin Chinese language skills are a plus, but not required.
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
