American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a 13-week night shift contract on an Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit, requiring at least 2 years of experience with orthopedic patients and Epic EMR proficiency.

33-bed Ortho-Neuro unit within an acute care hospital setting, all private rooms
-
Patient population includes elective orthopedic surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fractures, neurosurgical cases (back and neck), and general Med/Surg patients

Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
-
PCAs (Patient Care Techs) support nursing staff with vitals, blood glucose monitoring, ADLs, and Foley discontinuation — typically 2–4 PCTs per shift depending on staffing

PCA pumps and IV fluids are used; no heparin or titratable drips
-
Remote telemetry available if needed, monitored off-unit; RNs are not required to read strips

CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen managed by Respiratory Therapy

Charge Nurse available 24/7; night charge carries a full patient assignment
-
12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with a 30-minute lunch break

Every-other-weekend requirement; night weekend shifts include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs

Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to any Med/Surg unit; if floated to Tele, assignments will match skill set

Epic EMR used on this unit

Active WV RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS certification (AHA)

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Experience with orthopedic patients required

Experience with PCA pumps required

Epic EMR experience required

Valid driver's license copy required for consideration

Orientation consists of 1 day of Epic training followed by 1 day on the floor with a preceptor; independent practice begins on day 3

Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs

Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets are optional but must be royal blue — no hoodies or non-scrub jackets permitted

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from this facility to be eligible

Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
-
Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break

Any time-off requests should be communicated during the pre-screening process

2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference (must be from a permanent facility if worked within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)

Work history covering the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days is required, including hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and teaching facility status
