Construction Superintendent Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION & REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for providing technical expertise and oversight commercial construction projects from mobilization through closeout. The Superintendent ensures all field operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, OSHA and company standards. This role provides problem-solving capability, and coordination with Project Managers and Directors. This person is the on-site authority responsible for driving schedule adherence, ensuring high-quality workmanship, managing risk, and maintaining strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities)
Education
Skilled trade or post-secondary certifications in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field is highly preferred. Education may be waived in lieu of demonstration offsetting experience, which relates to the requirements of this position description.
Experience
Ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 4-6 experience running commercial construction project sites as a lead superintendent. Proven success overseeing multiple subcontractors and managing complex construction schedules. Familiarity with all major construction disciplines, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and finish trades. Demonstrated experience with ground-up, remodel, and multi-site rollout projects preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
This person must possess a strong understanding of commercial construction means and methods, sequencing, OSHA standards and safety practices, with the ability to lead all field activities from mobilization through punch list completion. This individual demonstrates excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, effectively coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades across complex job sites. They must be highly proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules, and in applying that knowledge to maintain progress, quality, and compliance with design intent.
The ideal candidate exhibits exceptional organizational and time-management skills, capable of prioritizing tasks and adjusting to evolving project demands in a fast-paced environment. A working knowledge of project scheduling, quality control, safety enforcement, and field reporting processes is essential. The role requires proficiency with standard office and construction-related software, including spreadsheet, document, and scheduling applications. The Superintendent must be detail-oriented, resourceful, and adaptable, with the ability to foster teamwork, maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and clients, and uphold the company’s standards for safety, quality, and performance excellence.
ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS
Project Planning & Execution
- Oversee all day-to-day field operations ensuring that construction activities meet project requirements for safety, schedule, and quality.
- Lead site logistics planning including material deliveries, equipment management, and subcontractor scheduling.
- Maintain a detailed understanding of project plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure all work is performed accordingly.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Directors to develop, monitor, and adjust project schedules, identifying critical path impacts and resolving challenges.
Leadership & Team Coordination
- Lead and motivate field teams, subcontractors, and vendors to achieve project goals and deadlines.
- Conduct daily safety and coordination meetings to review priorities, address issues, and promote teamwork.
- Serve as the on-site company representative, modeling professionalism, communication excellence, and accountability.
Quality Assurance & Safety
- Implement quality-control measures appropriate for site conditions and installations.
- Conduct safety inspections and enforce compliance with OSHA, state, and internal safety protocols for site conditions.
- Identify and resolve deficiencies and proactively address potential safety or quality risks before they affect project progress.
Closeout & Client Satisfaction
- Lead closeout efforts, including punch list management, and applicable turnover documentation.
- Ensure all as-built documentation is thorough, accurate, and delivered timely to project team.
- Conduct final inspections with clients and project leadership, ensuring full client satisfaction and adherence to Beam Team Construction, Inc.’s quality expectations.
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients, architects, consultants, and internal stakeholders as required.
- Provide regular project status updates, and progress reports, to project team, director and clients.
- Facilitate coordination meetings to ensure alignment of priorities, expectations, and deliverables.
Quality Assurance & Document Control
- Partner with the project team in inspection processes.
- Partner with the project team in accurate project documentation, correspondence, drawings, and reports.
- Verify that all on site work meets quality and performance standards prior to client handover.
Closeout & Client Satisfaction
- Manage on site closeout processes, ensuring all punch list items, inspections, Certificates of Occupancy, and other applicable closeout items are completed to the client’s and company’s standards.
- Participate in postmortem evaluations to identify opportunities for process improvement and future best practices.
Relationships with Others
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal leadership, reinforcing trust and transparency on complex or high-visibility projects.
- Promote a collaborative environment focused on problem-solving, communication, and high-quality execution.
- Communicate in a positive and supportive manner with internal business leaders and project team.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work primarily in active construction environments, including ground-up sites, exposed conditions, and multi-story structures.
- Ability to navigate rough terrain, ladders, and elevated work platforms and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to travel to job sites is required; utilizing private and company rented vehicles as well as air travel, often for extended durations.
- Ability to operate forklift and scissor lifts after accredited certification.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation available to get to job sites.
Judgment and Decision-Making
- Demonstrate advanced judgment when addressing complex field challenges, structural issues, or schedule risks.
- Escalate unresolved issues appropriately to Project Managers or Directors while providing recommended solutions.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all dealings with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Seeks guidance and direction from appropriate personnel within the organization of from other outside sources as may be required in the performance of assigned responsibilities and duties.
- Use good judgment in regard to escalation of problems/issues beyond the control of this position, making sure to get an approved change order prior to any work being done.
Planning & Time Utilization
- Consistently demonstrate ability to recognize and proactively manage priorities to ensure strict adherence to project deadlines.
- Prioritize tasks to support efficient field operations, minimize downtime, and ensure continuity of work across trades.
- May be required to work extended hours as needed to meet project/customer demands.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
