Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our tax department. This position is responsible for overseeing tax production, managing workflow, reviewing tax returns, mentoring staff, and ensuring quality, efficiency, and timely delivery throughout the tax season.
This role partners closely with the Senior Tax Manager, who remains focused on client relationships, tax planning, business development, and high-level technical consulting. The Tax Operations Manager serves as the operational leader of the tax department and is expected to help improve processes, develop staff, and leverage technology to increase efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage tax workflow, production schedules, and filing deadlines
- Supervise and mentor tax staff, including offshore team members
- Maintain quality control standards throughout the tax preparation process
- Develop, document, and improve tax department processes and procedures
- Monitor turnaround time, realization, productivity, and department metrics
- Review individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, fiduciary, and multi-state tax returns
- Prepare the firm's most complex tax returns and research technical tax issues
- Assign work and balance workloads across the tax team
- Provide technical review notes and coaching to improve staff performance
- Coordinate with Client Managers regarding missing information and project status
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and AI tools
- Collaborate with firm leadership on department planning and operational improvements
Required Qualifications
- CPA license required
- 8+ years of recent public accounting tax experience
- Comfortable utilizing AI and technology to improve efficiency and standardize processes
- Proficiency with UltraTax, CCH, Practice CS, Microsoft Office, and paperless tax workflows
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Experience supervising tax professionals and managing workflows
- Extensive experience reviewing Forms 1040, 1120S, 1120, 1065, fiduciary, and multi-state tax returns
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines during busy season
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Master’s degree in taxation
- Experience serving government contractor clients
- Experience in implementing workflow improvements and department KPIs
- Experience managing offshore or remote teams
- Experience developing training programs and standard operating procedures
- Lean or process improvement mindset
- Strong interest in technology, automation, and AI-driven workflows

Pay: $150,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
