Maintenance Technical Writer | CMMS, PM Plans & Job Plans
Hybrid Onsite in Nashville (some travel to job sites)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance (PM) program within a complex industrial or mission-critical environment.
This role will partner with maintenance, operations, engineering, and safety teams to create maintenance procedures, PM plans, work instructions, and CMMS data that enable safe, repeatable maintenance execution.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical writing skills with hands-on knowledge of maintenance programs, reliability practices, and CMMS systems.
What You'll Do
- Develop maintenance procedures, work instructions, and PM plans
- Document conduct-of-maintenance and conduct-of-operations processes
- Build detailed job plans including labor, tools, materials, safety requirements, and task sequencing
- Create and maintain preventive maintenance documentation
- Partner with subject matter experts to capture and document best practices
- Enter, validate, and maintain maintenance data within the CMMS
- Review equipment manuals, drawings, vendor documentation, and maintenance records
- Support technical reviews, approvals, and document revisions
- Participate in field validation and continuous improvement activities
Required Qualifications
- Experience writing maintenance procedures, technical documents, or work instructions
- Experience supporting maintenance, facilities, manufacturing, industrial, utility, energy, or mission-critical environments
- Hands-on experience with CMMS or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, manuals, and equipment documentation
- Strong interviewing, editing, and document management skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across multiple teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Preventive maintenance program development experience
- CMMS implementation or optimization experience
- Reliability, maintenance planning, or asset management experience
- Experience in highly regulated or procedure-driven environments
- Knowledge of LOTO, electrical safety, confined space, permitting, or similar safety programs

This is a project-based contract focused on building a sustainable preventive maintenance program, creating field-ready maintenance documentation, and ensuring accurate CMMS data to support long-term operational success.
Pay: From $50.00 per hour
