Fast Forward Composites is a leading, project-driven advanced composites shop. Our work spans product development, one-off builds, and short-run production across marine, aerospace, defense, medical, industrial, automotive, and renewable energy sectors. No two weeks look the same. We’re looking for a skilled CNC professional who can own the full cycle — programming, setup, operation, and job management — on our large-format 5-axis routers. You’ll work closely with our engineering and fabrication team and be expected to think on your feet when challenges come up, as they always do in our environment. If you're an experienced CNC Machinist/Programmer this is the perfect opportunity to become a valuable member of a growing team.
Machines you will work with: CMC Poseidon and CMC Ares large-format 5-axis CNC routers, equipped with Fanuc controllers and Renishaw probing systems.
Required Experience & What you will do:
- Program toolpaths for complex 5-axis parts using Mastercam
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC routers through full job runs
- Utilize the Renishaw probing system for part setup, datum verification, and in-process inspection
- Manage job sequencing, material prep, and tooling inventory
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
- Collaborate with design and fabrication staff to optimize part programs for the material at hand
- Troubleshoot in-process issues and adjust programs or setups as needed
- Maintain machine health — routine checks, tool changes, and basic maintenance
- Document programs, setups, and job notes in accordance with quality system requirements
Experienced-What we are looking for:
- Proven experience programming and operating 5-axis CNC routers (5+years of hands-on experience)
- Hands-on Mastercam proficiency (multi axis toolpaths preferred)
- Familiarity with Fanuc controller operation and G-code interpretation
- Experience using Renishaw probing systems for setup and inspection workflows
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models
- Strong attention to setup accuracy and part quality
- Self-sufficient — comfortable managing your own queue and flagging issues proactively
- Strong understanding of tooling, materials (hardwoods, MDF, PVC, etc.), and machining best practices
- Document actions by completing production and quality logs
- Strong math skills, experience with measuring tools
Nice to Have: (Preferred)
◦ Experience working with composites, tooling board, foam, honeycomb, or aluminum in a CNC context
◦ Background in metal parts fabrication — turning, milling, or general machining
◦ Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems and associated documentation practices
◦ CAD experience for designing fixtures and jigs — Rhino 3D or Fusion 360 a plus
◦ Experience in low-volume, high-variability production environments
◦ Good communication skills. Good attention to detail and mechanical aptitude necessary
What to Expect Here:
This is not a high-volume, repeat-cycle shop. Projects shift, materials vary, and you’ll often be the only person who knows exactly what the machine is doing. We value problem-solvers who communicate well and take ownership of their work. In return, you’ll work on genuinely interesting projects across a diverse range of industries and with a tight-knit team.
Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision Plans, 401(k) Plan, PTO, holidays, maternity, bereavement.
Compensation is commensurate with experience. We’re open to discussing range once we understand your background.
