We are hiring motivated and talented entry level and mid-level trial attorneys to join our litigation team.
We will also consider qualified candidates for:
- A non-exclusive Of Counsel arrangement
- A Partnership track for experienced attorneys with a portable book or established practice
- Part-time or flexible-schedule arrangements for the right candidate
About the Firm:
We are an AV®-rated (Martindale-Hubbell) insurance defense and civil litigation firm practicing across Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia. Our docket includes premises liability, personal injury, slip-and-fall, dog bite, products liability, construction defect, breach of contract, and complex business tort defense.
What sets us apart is the mentorship. Our junior and mid-level attorneys work directly under seasoned trial lawyers with proven track records in MD, DC, and Virginia courts — attorneys who have tried cases to verdict, argued dispositive motions, and built reputations with the carriers and defense bar in this region. You will not be a name on a pleading caption. You will sit second chair at depositions and trial, get real-time feedback on your motions and briefs, and be brought into strategy discussions from the moment a file lands on your desk.
We offer what larger insurance defense shops typically don't: substantive ownership of your files, real first-chair and second-chair trial experience early in your career, hands-on mentorship from senior trial counsel, and a collegial, business-casual environment where good work is recognized and rewarded.
Responsibilities:
- Work directly with senior trial attorneys on case strategy, motion practice, deposition preparation, and trial — with structured mentorship and real-time feedback, not sink-or-swim assignments
- Manage civil litigation files from intake through trial, with primary responsibility for strategy and case development
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery, and trial briefs in Maryland, DC, and Virginia state and federal courts
- Take and defend depositions, including expert and corporate-designee witnesses
- Appear at hearings, status conferences, settlement conferences, and trial
- Conduct and oversee pre-trial discovery, including large-volume document review and production
- Prepare witnesses and exhibits, develop trial themes, and second-chair or first-chair jury and bench trials based on experience
- Advise clients and carriers on liability exposure, coverage interplay, litigation strategy, and resolution options
- Conduct legal research and produce work product suitable for direct submission to clients and the court
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school
- Active bar admission in at least one of Maryland, DC, or Virginia is required; admission in two or three is strongly preferred (we will support waiving in or sitting for additional admissions for the right candidate). Additional consideration will be given to candidates barred in VA and/or multiple jurisdiction.
- 3+ years of civil litigation experience in a private law firm preferred; motivated recent graduates with strong writing samples, clerkship experience, or relevant litigation experience will be considered
- Solid litigation fundamentals preferred
- Ability to manage discovery and trial prep independently
- First chair trial experience or readiness to step into that role preferred
- Demonstrated legal writing and oral advocacy skills
- Sound legal judgment, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to move a case forward independently
- Comfort managing competing deadlines in a litigation-driven practice
- Working proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with case management software (e.g., Clio, Smokeball, ProLaw, Filevine) and e-discovery platforms is a plus
- Business development interest is welcomed and rewarded but not required
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary $68,396.67 – $125,370.18, commensurate with experience
- Origination incentives and merit-based bonuses
- 401(k) with employer match
- Health insurance, with optional dental and vision coverage
- Paid vacation and PTO
- Paid parking
- Business-casual environment and collegial team culture
- Defined path to Of Counsel or Partnership for qualified candidates
Mentorship and Professional Development:
Our firm is built on direct mentorship from seasoned trial attorneys with decades of combined trial experience in state and federal courts across Maryland, DC, and Virginia courts. You will have opportunities to try cases to verdict. New associates are paired with senior trial counsel from day one, sit second chair at depositions and trial, receive substantive feedback on written work, and are integrated into case strategy rather than siloed in document review. For attorneys who genuinely want to learn how to try a case — not just paper one — this is a place where that happens.
