The Facilities Maintenance Engineer assists in planning, implementing, and monitoring facility maintenance programs for state buildings and related structures. This role performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled building trades work including repair, maintenance, and construction activities.
Responsibilities include maintaining building systems, troubleshooting equipment issues, interpreting construction plans and blueprints, and coordinating facility repairs. Depending on experience level, this role may also provide lead support to maintenance staff and assist with coordinating maintenance and renovation activities.
This position corresponds to the state classification Facilities Maintenance Engineer 2 / 3 and requires 24-hour on-call availability as needed.
Perform building maintenance, repair, and renovation work across multiple trades
Diagnose and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
Perform preventive maintenance on building equipment and infrastructure
Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints
Use industry tools, equipment, and materials to complete repairs safely and effectively
Troubleshoot facility maintenance issues and recommend solutions
Monitor building systems and equipment to ensure proper operation
Maintain compliance with safety standards and building regulations
Assist with coordinating facility maintenance and construction projects
May serve as lead worker or supervise support staff depending on level
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
OR
Three (3) years of related experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or building systems
Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND one (1) year of related experience
OR
Four (4) years of related experience
OR
One (1) year of experience at the lower level Facilities Maintenance Engineer 2 or equivalent
Applicants must meet the agency’s requirements to be an authorized driver.
Experience with HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, or building maintenance
Skilled in welding, carpentry, sheet metal fabrication, or related building trades
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints
Experience troubleshooting and repairing building systems and equipment
Experience using trade tools, maintenance equipment, and diagnostic tools
Knowledge of building construction and repair methods
Ability to diagnose maintenance and repair problems efficiently
Work may be performed in state facilities, mechanical spaces, and construction environments. The position may require physical activity including equipment use, maintenance work, and facility inspections.
This position requires 24-hour on-call availability to respond to maintenance needs when necessary.
