Duties
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity.
- Monitor vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature; accurately document findings in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper handling and adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other memory impairments, utilizing techniques like memory care strategies and aseptic procedures.
- Operate assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts and ensure safe manual handling practices during patient transfers.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to observe changes in patient condition and report concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by following infection control protocols and adhering to HIPAA regulations for medical documentation and patient privacy.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in accordance with state requirements.
- Experience working with diverse populations including geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring specialized care such as hospice or ICU settings.
- Knowledge of EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks; proficiency in medical terminology and vital signs measurement.
- Demonstrated ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper techniques; familiarity with assistive devices like Hoyer lifts is preferred.
- Strong communication skills with a compassionate approach to patient service; experience working with children or in pediatric settings is a plus.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification; additional certifications such as CPR or medication administration are advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments including emergency medicine, urgent care, or trauma centers; familiarity with infection control practices is essential.
