SALARY BASED OFF EXPERIENCE. We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Surgical/Dental Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic veterinary team. In this vital role, you will provide expert assistance during surgical and dental procedures, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and safety. Your expertise will support veterinarians in performing complex surgeries, dental cleanings, and diagnostic procedures, contributing to improved health outcomes for our animal patients. Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical and dental suites by sterilizing equipment, setting up necessary tools, and ensuring a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Assist veterinarians during surgeries and dental procedures by handling instruments, monitoring anesthesia, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and anesthetics under veterinarian supervision, ensuring proper dosing and patient safety.
- Monitor animal vital signs continuously during procedures using veterinary anesthesia monitoring equipment; respond promptly to any abnormalities.
- Perform animal restraint and handling with care to ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures.
- Conduct laboratory work such as blood draws (phlebotomy), sample collection, and processing for diagnostic testing; operate laboratory equipment accurately.
- Maintain detailed medical records in veterinary software, documenting procedures, medications administered, and patient responses.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a veterinary technician or assistant with a focus on surgical or dental procedures.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques.
- Proficiency in anesthesia administration, monitoring vital signs, vascular access (IV insertion), and animal catheterization.
- Experience with medical equipment operation including radiology diagnostics (X-ray), laboratory instruments, and dental tools.
- Ability to handle dogs confidently through training in dog handling and animal restraint techniques; experience with pet grooming is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
- Knowledge of veterinary software systems for recordkeeping and scheduling.
- Certifications in veterinary technology or related fields are preferred; ongoing education in critical & intensive care or emergency medicine is advantageous.
