Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Trumpet player who is well-versed in standard Top 40 party band music to perform for high-end private events (weddings, corporate parties, etc.). The ideal candidate is a trumpet player who has experience playing in top 40 bands, is an excellent reader and soloist (pop and jazz), is able to play with a click-track, and can play in multiple styles.
The trumpet player must also be comfortable performing high-energy dance sets that involve moving around (light dancing), engaging with the audience, and performing in the crowd.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform the trumpet parts to songs on the JKMC Song List (charts provided), including solos
- Memorize 2-3 songs (minimum) on the JKMC song list to be able to perform out in the audience to deliver a high-energy, engaging performance
- Move around and dance while on the bandstand to deliver a high-energy, engaging performance, even on songs that don’t feature the trumpet
- Ability to perform 3-4 hour sets (sometimes with minimal breaks)
- Perform in occasional cocktail hours (instrumental jazz or pop duos, trios, quartets) when needed. Extra pay is often included for these.
- Perform in the occasional wedding ceremony (instrumental jazz, pop, or classical solo, duo, trio, or quartet) when needed. Extra pay is often included for these.
- Have a positive attitude with other musicians and bandleaders
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a party band (or similar style) trumpet player
- Proficient music reading ability
- Proficient soloist in pop and jazz settings
- Ability to perform multiple styles, including Top 40, rock, Latin, jazz, big band, etc.
- Ability to play with a click track and backing tracks
- Must own their own trumpet and appropriate gear (mouthpiece, mutes, etc.). The company will always provide mics and monitors.
- Must have an easy to work with, “go with the flow” attitude
Preferred:
- Willing to travel
- Experience leading a horn section on high profile events
Compensation:
Pay is $200 per local event (wage could increase depending on distance traveled from van pick-up) on an event-to-event basis as a freelance contractor (all offers optional), with the opportunity for added bonuses on an event-to-event basis.=
