Cleaners / Environmental Services Technicians (As Needed, Shift Pick Up) – Southeast, DC
Pay: $23.50 per hour

Schedule: As-Needed, Voluntary
Position Overview: We are looking for Experienced, Professional, and Reliable Cleaners / Environmental Services Technicians to provide as‑needed support in a men’s residential facility. As‑needed shifts are offered based on operational needs and are not guaranteed. Shifts may be offered in advance or on short notice. Weekend availability is required, and weekday shifts may be offered when needed.
Shift Windows
- Early: 6:00am-2:00pm
- Day: typically between 7:00am-5:00pm
- Evening: typically between 2:00pm-11:00pm
- Weekend availability is required, as weekends are when we need the most support and when most shift offers will occur.
Ideal Candidates Demonstrate
- Experience in facilities such as shelters, hospitals, residential/community facilities.
- Strong professionalism and customer service
- Consistent reliability and punctuality
- Ability to pick up shifts as needed, including short notice or on advance notice, weekend, or holiday shifts, and consistently arrive on time.
- Ability to work professionally in an environment that involves interactions with residents experiencing a range of support needs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain a professional attitude, communication style, and appearance
- Clean, sanitize, and disinfect administrative areas, dormitories, dining areas, common spaces, lobbies, hallways, elevators, laundry spaces, and outdoor areas
- Clean and disinfect restrooms and shower rooms; restock supplies
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors and stairs; dust vents and assigned surfaces
- Clean windows, glass surfaces, and mirrors
- Remove trash and properly dispose of waste
- Respond to cleaning needs or situations that arise during the shift
- Follow safety procedures when handling bodily fluids or unsanitary conditions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Experience
Preferred: 2-3 years of professional commercial cleaning experience
Required Qualifications
- This is a safety-sensitive, essential personnel position
- Must complete background checks, including fingerprint-based checks and drug/alcohol screenings

- Weekend and holiday availability required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and professionalism
- Preferred OSHA Awareness and knowledge of safe mopping techniques, sanitation standards, PPE Use, cross-contamination prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, chemical safety, biohazard response, and sharps safety.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Active Role — This is an active role requiring frequent movement throughout a large facility, including multiple floors.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, and lift 35-40 lbs
- Ability to open and close wide trash compactor doors and move wheeled trash carts
- Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and following safety instructions
- Work involves exposure to dust, odors, cleaning chemicals, bodily and biohazard conditions.
- Work involves contact with pests and environmental health risks common in residential facilities, including communicable illnesses.
- Work may involve encountering discarded items or paraphernalia that require careful handling and adherence to safety protocols.
